Dearest Traveler,

Every destination has an origin story. Long before the Hair Cabana, the hair rituals, and the handcrafted products, I was just a hair stylist searching for my place in this jungle of an industry. And along that journey, I discovered a philosophy known as Huna.

The modern Huna system is not a traditional Native Hawaiian belief system. However, several of its guiding principles aligned with my core beliefs.

These principles reignited the fire within me. I felt called to create a world where wellness, connection, and caring for others lived in harmony. And over time, that world formed into Hairadise.

A Note From The Hair Huna

Please understand that the Hair Huna was not created to teach Hawaiian spirituality nor do we claim cultural authority in any way. These ideas were inspired & created by my personal journey and creation of the Hair Huna.

Would you believe me if I told you huna was whispered to me? It happened during one of my short meditations. When I looked up its definition, it translates to “secret” or “hidden”.

In the early twentieth century, Max Freedom Long introduced this modern Huna philosophy: a system inspired by his interpretation of Hawaiian ideas.

Instead of adopting these teachings as my own, I was inspired to create something entirely different. Welcome to Hairadise, a world led by the Hair Huna, our protector of hair energy.

7 Principles of the Hair Huna

Below you can explore the seven principles of the huna philosophy. Even though these are not considered accurately translated from the Hawaiian language, the interpretations still hold meaning if you’re looking to get more connected with the world around you.

#1. Awareness is the Beginning of Every Hair Journey.

IKE | The world is what you think it is.

Healthy hair begins with awareness. And according to the Hair Huna’s hair wellness philosophy, you’ve got to listen closely to what your strands are telling you.

Between regular stress, daily routines, your environment, products and relationships, it’s hard to hear that inner voice.

You’ve got to slow down a bit to notice where your energy may be lacking, and how that is showing up in your hair.

#2. There is Always Room For Renewal

KALA | There are no limits, everything is possible.

I bet you’ve noticed the changes within your hair over the years. Often times clients talk about experiencing thinning or lack of fullness and life due to age, health concerns, or going through a season of stress.

But the truth is, there is always hope when it comes to healing your hair. Our hair changes with the seasons of life. It’s a physical representation of what’s going on in our internal worlds.

And that’s what makes Hairadise unique. The journey offers ritual experiences and wisdom to evolve habits and improve hair wellness rather than promising perfect hair.

Your scalp will recover, you can reverse its damaged health, your strands will grow, and confidence returns.

#3. Energy Flows Where Attention Goes

MAKIA | Energy flows where attention goes.

Having good hair energy means consistently focusing positive energy towards daily wellness rituals that support both healthy hair growth and nervous system regulation.

Instead of chasing these so-called ‘holy grail products’, focus on being intentional with your hair wellness rituals. Mindful brushing, scalp massages, proper hydration and quality sleep are a few changes you can make to restore hair energy.

Hair wellness wasn’t built in one spa day. Instead, it is built through hundreds of small moments that became habits.

#4. Your Journey Is Most Powerful Now

MANAWA | Now is the moment of power

It’s easy to wait for what seems to be the “perfect” time.

Small daily ( and good ) choices build up over time, getting your closer to your end destination. Don’t wait to start your journey on Monday, or New Year’s, or after vacation.

The truth is, life is always going to have obstacles. You have to chose what’s worth going after. And there is no better time to do it, than now!

#5. Stewardship is One of the Best Forms of Wellness

ALOHA | To love is to be happy

The Hair Huna reminds us to leave every destination better than we found it.

It is each person’s responsibility to care for themself, for others, for nature, and for the village that surrounds you.

#6. Nurture Good Hair Energy From Within

MANA | Power comes from within

Many cultures believe life is sustained by an invisible current of energy. While different traditions give it different names, the Hair Huna simply refers to it as good hair energy.

No, it isn’t something that comes from a bottle or a trend. Instead, it’s cultivated through rest.
Being present. Through connection. And caring for the mind, body, and the spirit.

Every ritual in Hairadise is designed with intention. The Hair Huna creates space where you can feel restored before you ever leave the chair.

As Hairadise continues to grow, so too will our understanding of the many ways people cultivate wellness, peace, and balance.

#7. Wellness Is Different For Every Traveler

PONO | Effectiveness is the measure of truth

We all set out for our travels bringing different luggage. Some travel with only a carry-on. Others have two checked bags. What works for some, does nothing for others.

And that’s okay!

Whether you seek healthier curls, confidence, better scalp health, more zen, or a transformation.

Hair wellness is not one-size-fits-all. That’s why consultations are so important. Hair Rituals are encouraged to be customized.

How These Hair Huna Principles Formed Hairadise

You know, Hairadise did not manifest overnight. But it was built during one of the most uncertain, yet transformational, seasons of my life.

After going through my layoff, the foundation I believed was sturdy beneath my feet, had crumbled right before my eyes. But ironically enough, that uncertainty allowed me to root in an even stronger and more certain foundation.

That grounding energy mimicked the earthly vibes of my cabin in the woods. Funnily enough, this actually sparked the idea behind the Treehouse destination of Hairadise. And honestly, that’s where my journey began… handcrafting soaps, designing the Hairadise Map, creating grounding and strengthening hair wellness rituals.

Fast forward four years later, I realize the Hair Huna was never about mastering these seven principles. For me, it was a prayer in progress. It was about becoming the kind of person who could build a place where people feel seen, cared for, and restored. Today, that place exists. And we call it Hairadise.

So whether your journey begins in the Hair Cabana, through one of our signature rituals, or quietly at home with a simple act of self-care, every traveler is welcome here.
