An Ancient Hair Wellness Teaching from The Hair Huna
Dear Traveler,
If you’re reading this, you’ve just stumbled upon one of the Hair Huna’s oldest teachings preserved within the Clay Tablets of Hairadise. You see, long before Hairadise became a destination, it began as the simple belief that healthy, thriving hair is not separated from the state of one’s nervous system.
You may have been in search of better shampoos, serums, or the newest hair growth products. And I’m not saying these don’t have their place, but it’s a miniscule part of the journey.
The Hair Huna believes that every strand is in tune with the environment it must grow in. And that includes the type of energy that is flowing within you.
Good hair energy cannot thrive when the nervous system feels unsafe.
But that’s why Hairadise was created. As an island escape that promotes reconnection through self, nature, and community.
The First Teaching: Safety Before Growth

The nervous system is the body’s command center. A network of communication that collects info from the outside world while triggering voluntary and involuntary reactions. From breathing, metabolic processes, to fight or flight mode.
There are several indigenous cultures that consider hair to be an extension of our nervous system. Some might even refer to it as your spiritual antenna. In order to grow your hair long and strong, energy is needed,
But if your body’s nervous system is under chronic stress and stuck in survival mode, the hair is the last thing your body will expend that energy on. Hence, you’ll notice shedding becomes more severe when cortisol rises, or we get sick, and the hair growth cycle gets disrupted.
Why Hairadise Was Built Around This Teaching
Before Hairadise became a destination, it was simply a state of being I aimed to reached- similar to nirvana.
I developed alopecia areata back in 2022 after my first lay off. I had a small bald patch about the size of a dime on the right side of my scalp near the part.
Immediately, I knew it was stress induced. Products alone were not going to heal this. But, I had to get to the root of the issue and let my body know I was safe.
I wanted… no, wait. I needed to escape, go on a road trip, a vacation, or just be anywhere instead of where I physically, mentally, and emotionally was.
So, I began blogging as an outlet. Not only was I building my ideal hair paradise- one that allowed me to explore, learn, create ritual experiences and realign with nature. It also served as an editorial portfolio of my ideas, design, branding, and journey.
This is where I, and others can visit to experience that calm. Through hair wellness, we are reminded to slow down, reconnect, engage the senses, connect with nature, feel safe in new experiences.
Ritual Is How You Regulate Your Nervous System To Feel Safe Again
Routines accomplish a task. Kind of monotonous and disconnected. It feels more like being on autopilot.
But ritual transforms the person performing it. You can start small, with tea ceremonies.
Lighting candles or slow breathing techniques promote mindfulness and help with removing distractions. Create hair rituals around journaling or expressing gratitude or intentional scalp massages with calming music to help reduce cortisol spikes.
How The World Of Hairadise Was Designed To Regulate The Nervous System
When the Hair Huna revealed her teachings to me, I discovered that this island Hairadise had several destinations and pathways. Each were inspired by the healing rhythms and elements of nature.
I’ll explain below:

The Hot Springs
Representing the fire element.
In Hairadise, fire signifies transformation. Destroying the old to make way for the new.
So if you’re just now learning how to regulate your nervous system, start by releasing what no longer serves you.
No fear. Just passion and courage. Come back renewed.
The Lagoon
One of my favorite destinations, ruled by water, and often where you’ll find me writing Letters from Hairadise.
Here, we are reminded that rushing and nourishment were not designed to go together.
The Lagoon is where we embrace hydration, emotional restoration, and gentle movement. But like the tide, sometimes life is meant to go with the flow. And sometimes, healing means being comfortable when you get caught in that current.

The Tree House
Nestled along the southeast coast of the is of the Hairadise jungle, you’ll find the Tree House, grounded with the element of Earth.
Here is your place to reconnect with nature. Inhale the fresh air, start your beauty garden, and tend to strong, healthy roots for ultimate growth.
Sometimes the hardest work has to be done beneath the surface before the fruits of our labor become visible to ourselves and others.
The Hidden Temple
Ruled by the ether/ spirit. This destination calls you to walk along the paths deep within the jungle. Here you are able to focus on inner wisdom. Reflect on what your nervous system might need to feel safe. .
Focus on what is unseen. Find the quiet wisdom within you.
Sometimes our nervous system isn’t asking for more to be done. Instead it’s telling us to be still, and listen to what may not be said aloud.

Sunset Shores
Where each journey begins, ruled by the element of air.
As the sun sets, the ocean calls in the evening breeze. And if you listen closely, you’ll hear whispers of the Hair Huna.
This destination supports nervous system regulation by sparking curiosity, mental stimulation, fresh perspectives, story telling, and encouraging the freedom of movement.
Take a stroll, start a conversation, seek out a new view, or head out for a day trip.
How Travel Helps Regulate Your Nervous System
I genuinely enjoy travel. Likewise, it is a great way to maintain mental health and well-being according to this Travel Hub article.
Growing up, I was fortunate to visit many places, both foreign and within the United States. Each destination helped me change my view of the world, little by little.
But when I lost my job in 2022, my finances laughed at me. Travelling was the last thing I should be doing, and it seemed next to impossible.
My mental health suffered greatly during this time. Ironically, I needed to travel at this time, now more than ever. And that’s part of the reason I started building Hairadise.
I began to understand that travel combats the monotony and stresses of daily life. It provides opportunities to learn about new or different cultures, increasing empathy and tolerance.
Being in nature or scenic areas create hope, improving our general outlook on life and reducing stress. At the same time, travelling helps brain function and boosts creativity, cognitive flexibility and integrating thoughts.
Yes, it’s a form of self care. In fact, travel interrupts survival mode.
And Hairadise was designed to recreate those emotional benefits without requiring a passport.
That’s why our first destination is so important. My Hair Cabana is just along the shoreline, where you arrive and begin your journey.
But it’s also where you can regulate your nervous system through scent, touch, sound, conversation, and holistic hair care. A mini escape to help you regulate before we begin caring for your hair.
Every Hair Wellness Ritual Begins Long Before The Shampoo Bowl
Now, the Hair Cabana didn’t come to fruition until the summer of 2026. But my hair wellness rituals began long before that. Ever since I was a teen, I had been DIY-ing my way through the hair jungle, creating homemade treatments, and researching natural ingredients..
In college, I rediscovered hair oiling. And it became part of a Sunday night wellness ritual. A proper reset before the week started. Between coconut oil hair treatments, late night crawls to the cafeteria, and a couple hours of trash tv or talkin’ trash. Sundays’ with the girls were sacred.
My curiosity expanded beyond recipes.
I started researching holistic hair practices in depth, and how they originated in ancient cultures across the globe. Not only that, making them myself became part of the practice. In fact, that’s how I started to regulate my nervous system. My self care became more about connection than appearance.
If you’d like some examples to begin your own nervous system regulation practice, start here:
- brew an herbal tea while your treatment is processing
- slow breaths during hair detoxes or during your shampoo.
- wrap hair in a warm towel after a hot oil treatment.
- diffuse calming essential oils or botanical scents
- lighthearted, gentle conversation
- scalp massages- use the tool or your finger tips.
- create products by hand whenever possible
- design spaces with intention to promote peace and healing.
While these won’t grow your hair a foot overnight, they help to create a welcoming environment where healing and your nervous system can thrive.
Healthy Hair Is The Byproduct Of A Healthy Environment
Have you noticed that everything in Hairadise is connected?
Hair is connected to the body. The body is connected to the mind. And our minds- they’re shaped by our environments, both internal and external.
From our sleep cycles to nutrition, how we move our bodies, the relationships we build within our community, spending time in nature, and living with purpose.
Hair wellness reflects the entire ecosystem surrounding it.
Carry This Teaching Beyond Hairadise
Now that you have an understanding of this teaching from the Hair Huna, I invite you to start creating your own rituals that support nervous system regulation…
You don’t need a tropical island (although, I surely wouldn’t be opposed) . And you don’t need expensive products either.
Start with small habit changes, like waking up 15 minutes earlier to make morning tea- unrushed. Unplug from technology for a bit. Take a walk in nature, read a book, or journal for at least ten to fifteen minutes to spark a mental reset.
Working with your hands is a great way to keep your mind focused on a specific task. Try cooking a new recipe, rearrange your space, or get crafty.
Conclusion
The pathways of Hairadise have been unlocked. The teachings that the Hair Huna entrusted with me, can now be passed along to you. It is my hope that you carry them beyond the shores of the island, and bring them into your own hair rituals and wellness spaces.
Like I’ve discovered, there are many paths to healthy hair. Some begin with products. Others begin with nutrition. But here in Hairadise, we believe every journey begins with peace.
“Your hair is more than protein, and far more than an accessory. It is part of a living body. And a living body grows best when it feels safe.
So if you are in search of how to regulate your nervous system, begin with one small ritual.
Brew the tea. Step into nature. Take a deep breath.
Wash your hair with intention. Create beauty around you. And if your world ever gets to chaotic for you, return to these teachings.”
May you be guided back to harmony. Back to yourself. And back to Hairadise.
Until next time,
The Hair Huna
