Before the Hair Huna was a brand, it was a remembering.

the hair huna origin story

I didn’t set out to create another hair care company. I was actually pretty content living what I thought was the dream.

At the time, I was working for hair care brands I admired, learning the systems behind the beauty industry, while still building a following behind the chair.

Not once. But twice. The rug was yanked from under me. I was laid off from two dream jobs back to back.

What followed wasn’t just professional loss, it was physical.

Stress overwhelmed me and showed up in my hair. Thinning. Shedding. Bald patches. My hair that was once a source of my Leo confidence, became a mirror for everything I had been internalizing.

And I knew products wouldn’t fix it.

Truth was, my hair didn’t need fixing. It needed listening.

The Remembering

Long before modern hair routines and influencer formulas, hair was sacred.

Across ancient and pre-religious cultures, hair was understood as an extension of spirit, intuition, and life force. It was protected, honored, and touched with intention. And no. Not everyone was allowed access to it. Hair held memory. It carried energy. It connected the body to the unseen.

In Hawaiian wisdom, Huna means “secret”, not something hidden away, but something protected. Something revealed only through relationship, respect, and practice.

And so the idea of the Hair Huna emerged.

Not an actual person—but a role.

The Hair Huna is the keeper of hair wisdom. The chief of the crown. The one who understands that hair care is not separate from nervous system care, spiritual care, or ancestral care. The Hair Huna knows that what we put on our hair matters. But how we touch it matters just as much.

Becoming the Hair Huna

After my layoffs, I chose a different path.

I slowed down, retreating back into my turtle shell.

But I began studying energy work, Reiki, ancient rituals, and the emotional roots of hair loss and scalp imbalance. I paid attention to how stress lived in the body, and how hair responded when the body finally felt safe.

As a holistic hairstylist, I know not everyone should touch your hair.

Hair care is an exchange.

Every wash, every massage, every trim transfers energy. When rushed, disconnected, or purely transactional, the body knows. When intentional, grounded, and reverent, the body responds.

That philosophy became the foundation of The Hair Huna.

Hair Care as Ritual

The Hair Huna brings hair care back into relationship.

We design products as a part of rituals, not quick fixes. They are stress-reducing, grounding, and intentionally crafted with natural ingredients that support the scalp, the nervous system, and the spirit.

But more than products, Hair Huna is a reminder:

  • Your hair is not separate from your life
  • Your scalp holds stories
  • Healing often means slow down

Stepping into the Hair Huna’s Hairadise allows you to tap in to that same energy.

That of treating your hair like a sacred extension of self. Caring for it with presence. Reconnecting with your roots, both physical and ancestral.

This is not about perfection. It’s about remembrance.

Welcome to the Hair Huna.

Where hair is sacred, rituals are modern, and care goes deeper than the surface.

Legend has it that long before Hairadise could be named, it was watched over by an ancient leader known as the Hair Huna.

Keeper of Hair Energy.

In ancient ways of living, hair was never just hair. It was a conduit, a place where life force gathered and stories were stored. It was touched slowly, intentionally, and only by those who understood its power.

The Hair Huna is the keeper of that wisdom, offering protection to those who honor it.

Honoring Culture & Community.

Hairadise is a destination we arrive at through ritual, wisdom, and intention. A place remembered before it can take physical form.

This path isn’t about perfection or trends, but protecting and curating rituals that reconnect with your roots: both physical and ancestral

The Hair Huna is A Friend To Earth.

In our eyes, nature is the original teacher. Our ancestors knew it, it’s time we tap into that knowledge.

The Hair Huna listens to the elements of nature, understanding that care was a reciprocal relationship.

The tale of the Hair Huna is not told all at once.

It arrives in fragments. In places, rituals, and in moments of care. The Hair Huna’s wisdom appears repeatedly on the island of Hairadise. In the whispers of the waves, the roars of the fires, rooted in the trees, and carried by the winds.

Our Postcards from Hairadise series shares more of the tale, so you can practice this wisdom in your own way. Follow along to start your journey.
