Can you believe the New Year is here already? We’re entering in to an 8 year in numerology. And if you have no idea what that means, let me tell you. It represents abundance, success, cycles and balanced energy due to its perfectly symmetrical shape. So if you’re looking to attract more abundance in your hair wellness journey this New Year, start with these 8 hair resolutions.

Looking to gain length and strength in your locks this year? Start hair oiling. This practice is an ancient system which holds roots in Ayurvedic Healing.

There are a number of benefits when it comes to hair oiling. And some include added shine, increased moisture, stronger strands, hair growth, removal of product buildup and improved scalp health. Plus, it’s cost effective. You can use a carrier oil like argan, castor or rosehip oil.

Or try this scalp oil that has already been formulated with other strengthening proteins and essential oils!

Not sure how to oil your hair? Apply a small amount to your scalp. Work it in. Then comb evenly throughout already detangled hair. Leave in for at least a half an hour, then shampoo.

Seems simple enough, right?

If you don’t already, you’ll definitely want to add this to your list of hair resolutions. Why?

Because shampooing twice ensures a thorough clean, especially if you will be hair oiling in the new year.

The first shampoo helps to lift the dirt and oils from your scalp. It doesn’t lather particularly well which lets you know that your hair is still dirty. The second shampoo, however, should lather quite easily. This is the part where you get to reap the benefits of the shampoo you are using.

I prefer to use a clarifying shampoo like Malibu C Un-Do-Goo for the first round to remove any product buildup. Follow up with a secondary shampoo and conditioner that aligns with the hair look you’re going for. I like Aluram’s Daily Hair Shampoo + Conditioner Set. It’s color safe, gentle for every day use, and formulated with a coconut water base to moisturize the hair.

Of course you can always mix and match your shampoos (and conditioners, too). Because why not reap multiple hair benefits? Shampooing twice is guaranteed to be a game changer. So, don’t skip out on this hair resolution!

If your hair has suffered from heat damage in the past, this is your year to get it together. You can’t grow your hair long and strong if your strands are using their last bit of strength to hold on to your head.

Too much heat and sun exposure is not your friend. This sucks the moisture out of your strands creating dry, brittle, and damaged locks.

There are so many different versions of heat protection. Some with a UV blocker already built in. If you have medium to coarse hair, creams are normally better. Try Briogeo’s Farewell Frizz Heat Protectant.

Fine to medium hair? Moroccanoil’s Perfect Defense Heat Protectant Spray has been my go-to for the last six years. Lightweight and smells ah-mazing!

But if you’re looking for a cleaner and more sustainable brand, don’t fret. Try out the Rahua Heat Protectant Shield. They have an amazing story which you can read about here. Follow up with the JVN Complete Nourishing Shine Drops for UV protection, shine, and to smooth any flyaways.

So you already know scalp care is my top priority when it comes to supporting healthy hair.

Scalp massages are known to improve blood flow and increase circulation. This is essential, especially if you are planting the seeds for healthy hair and trying to strengthen the hair roots.

You can simply use your finger tips and apply light pressure while moving them in circular motions across your scalp- which you can do while shampooing or hair oiling.

Or, try this wooden scalp massager which puts in the work for you. Unlike the silicone massagers, this one is less likely to cause tangles or bring added stress to your hair follicles if used wrong.

This is a hair resolution you’ll look forward to each wash day.

Many of us start off each year vowing to finally get serious about our hair rituals and regular care. This is the year to see it through. Make it your mission to add weekly or biweekly hair masks into your shower schedule.

You can DIY a mask using any of these natural hair remedies. There are thousands of recipes online. And you can find several here.

Too busy or just not interested in making your own? The Amika Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask is a fan favorite known to invigorate your senses with its rich scent. It’s perfect for all hair types and only needs to sit between 5-7 minutes on your precious locks.

A common resolution for many during New Year’s is to get in better shape and eat healthier. That’s why you should incorporate some of these healthy hair foods into your daily diets. You’ll reap the benefits of nutrient dense foods that contribute to your overall health.

This is one hair resolution that helps in multiple areas of your life including diet and mental health. Not only that, your hair will have the necessary vitamins and minerals to grow your hair long and strong!

If you’re looking to attract an abundance of hair wellness from within, this is your year to finally embrace your natural hair.

For one, this means less hair maintenance for you. You can start to adopt wash and go styles and spend less time overall on styling your hair. Air dry creams like this one from JVN will be your new BFF.

And once you find what works for your hair and your lifestyle, you’ll end up spending less money too. You can even incorporate affirmations to help you manifest spiritual beauty.

Who doesn’t want hair resolutions that help out in multiple aspects of their life?

Have you thought about creating a ritual surrounding your hair resolutions? Maybe you have. This is important when trying to find the right balance in your life.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed because your to-do list is piling up, turn these into a form of self care. Pair any or all of these hair resolutions with a habit you already have. Or a weekly activity you do.

Here’s an example. Do you normally clean the house every Saturday? Throw in some hair oil before you get started. When you shampoo after, not only will it remove the oil, but the energy of an unclean home will wash off your body and down the drain, too. Read more about this concept in my post about Self Connection through Hair Rituals.

Rituals can be as complex or as simple as you’d like. What’s important is the intention behind it.

In 2024, I’ll continue to incorporate the above with chakra balancing techniques to bring abundance in my hair wellness journey, starting with a beauty garden. Making hair resolutions are important to the health of your hair, but can positively effect your well-being and outlook on life.

Cheers to a year filled with abundance and effortlessly fabulous hair.
