Surface Conditioner for Curls

I’ve had my eye on Surface hair products for quite some time now. So when I was presented an opportunity (thanks, Beautytap!) to try their leave in conditioner for curly hair in exchange for an honest review, so I had to jump on that immediately. And to my surprise, I was able to try the shampoo and conditioner, too.

You probably know that not all curls are created equally. Some might even consider their curly hair rituals to be a part time job. For me, I want flawless curls, without all the hassle and in half the time.

Sounds relatable? Keep reading below for my review of Surface hair products and why I’ve chosen to add them as a part of my curly hair ritual.

Surface Hair: The Brand

When reviewing products, I also like to take a closer look into the brand itself- because their mission is just as important, along with the efficacy of the products, to me.

Surface started in 2008, and is based out of Saskatchewan, Canada. Stylist and salon owner, Wayne Grund, designed Surface hair products with respect to personal health and the Earth by providing natural, organic ingredients for products and packaging.

This luxury hair care line is cruelty free, vegan, uses natural preservatives, cleansers, aromas and color to uphold its clean and green mission.

What Curls Want & Need

Having curly hair requires plenty of trials, and quite a few errors. Whether you have waves, curls, or coils, they all have similar needs in order for them to flourish.

Growing up, there were very few product lines that catered to the curl gang. Here’s some key characteristics that curly products should provide:

  • Hydration
  • Moisture
  • Definition
  • Anti-frizz
  • Anti-breakage/ Detangling
  • Heat Protection

Benefits of Surface Hair Products For Curls

Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave In; Surface

Increases Elasticity

Elasticity is determined by how much your strands can stretch before breakage occurs. Having high elasticity means your hair is healthy and will return to its natural shape and curl formation.

With the right shampoo, conditioner and curl ritual, you can keep your hair balanced, healthy and full of life.

Hydrates and Adds Moisture

Finding the right balance of hydration and moisture keeps your curly styles lasting longer. If you’ve had trouble with your curls on day two, three, and so on, that’ll be a problem of the past. Kiss the frizz, goodbye.

Protects Color

Surface hair products use their own proprietary Color Lock Vita Complex to prevent color fading that’s caused by regular day to day and other environmental stressors.

Softens Curls

Having touch-ably soft and defined curls may have seemed so out of reach at one point in your life. But not anymore. Surface’s formula penetrates through the hair to heal from the inside out.

Cruelty- Free / PETA- Certified

The beauty of your curls doesn’t need to affect other living beings in a negative light. Thankfully all of Surface hair products are cruelty free, PETA- certified, vegan and gluten free. Gotta love products that are clean and green!

Prevents Environmental Damage

Spending time outdoors? The leave in conditioner provides a shield against the sun’s heat along with other environmental pollutants in the air.

Uses Organic Ingredients

Your hair isn’t the only thing to suffer from sulfates, phthalates, alcohols, and parabens. Those can have long term effects on the health of your mind and your body.

Your curls will be begging for more of these earthy ingredients:

  • Cocoa Butter
  • Babassu Seed Oil
  • Amaranth Protein
  • Color Lock Vita Complex
  • Omega 3 & 6
  • Palm Oils

Surface Hair Products For Curls: My Final Review

Surface shampoo and conditioner
Day 2 results from Surface Hair Products

Now that my curls have finally gotten the chance to experience Surface hair products, I’m not turning back.

First, I love that the brand favors green and clean beauty. Taking care of the world around us is not a trend, but a necessity. That’s a brand characteristic that’s super important to me. The packaging is aesthetically pleasing, clean, simple, and sustainable.

The smell of this line particularly is very smooth, earthy, and luxurious. Not overpowering in the least. I’m a big fan a smell goods, but try to stray away from too many fragrances and other additives.

The shampoo doesn’t strip moisture from your scalp or the curls. The conditioner is thick, but not heavy, providing weightless moisture.

The leave-in conditioner detangles my hair easily due to the slip of the product. There isn’t a leftover greasy feel, and my curls stay frizz free, defined, and smooth the entire day. It pairs nicely with my current curl styling cream and doesn’t effect the efficacy of other products (see above photo of my Day 2 Curls).

Overall, my curls don’t tangle as easily. Plus, I’m able to stretch out my styles for four to five days. Washing my hair seems a lot more manageable, too.

Im super excited to try the rest of the products in their curl line, which you can find here.

Do your curls (and yourself) a favor and give Surface hair products a shot- you won’t regret it.
