If you’re looking to cultivate spiritual beauty, then you might consider a hair journey that nurtures hair wellness from within. In short, this is a holistic approach that aims to balance the mind, body, and soul through your day to day hair care.
The pressures of life have more than likely taken a toll on your mental health and over all well being at one point or another. So, why not take a step back and get reconnected using the power of your hair?
In this post, I’m going to share my seven holy virtues that help to nurture hair wellness from within.
1. Start With Scalp Care
First and foremost, your scalp is the true testament and foundation to healthy hair. This is the home to the hair roots and follicles. Without a healthy scalp environment, it’s nearly impossible for you to achieve any your hair goals.
An unhealthy scalp is caused by toxin heavy ingredients in your hair products in addition to product and hard water buildup. Signs that your scalp needs some extra love include redness, dryness, irritation, itchiness, dandruff, or dermatitis. Avoid using products with ingredients like PFAs (forever chemicals), pthalates, parabens, and sulfates.
When you are beginning to nurture hair wellness from within, it’s important to start with a detox. Hair detoxes allow you to start your journey with a clean canvas.
Clay is a great for a natural detox. It acts as a magnet for debris that has built up on the hair and scalp without stripping moisture. Or you can opt for salon professional products like L’Oreal’s Metal Detox Shampoo, here. It’s color safe, and even improves the vibrancy of color over time.
Malibu C’s Hard Water Wellness Collection is another fan favorite that restores hair’s natural body and shine. The individual packets are meant to remove buildup while the shampoo and conditioner prevent additional buildup from forming on the hair shaft.

2. Get Creative With New Hair Rituals
While a hair care routine is great, it’s probably time to turn over a new leaf and get serious about hair rituals.
Wondering what’s the difference? I’m happy to tell ya. Go on, keep reading.
A hair routine, well you know, is just that. A routine. Repetitive, monotonous, and may even be a drag to some. It involves doing similar things to your hair maybe daily or every couple of days to achieve the same result.
Uhm, no thank you. *Yawns*.
On the other hand, hair rituals are focused on intention and deeper connection.
Depending on your goals, you can do hair cutting rituals, cleansing or detox rituals and even chakra balancing rituals which not only address your hair concerns, but also help to balance the mind, body and soul.
And if you really want to dive into the world of hair rituals, pair them with lunar phases, solstices, or seasonal changes!
3. Eat A Nutrient Dense Diet
Listen, if I’m being honest, I’m a sucker for Popeye’s chicken. It’s only 6 minutes from my house, and one of my guilty pleasures.
But understand that having a diet that consists of too much processed foods and high amounts of sugar, will result in weak, dull and unhealthy strands.
Unfortunately a lot of foods sold in regular grocery stores, and even many restaurants are not nutrient dense. Mass production of our food supply has led to cheaper ingredients and additives. Prioritize quality over quantity.
Your body needs the proper vitamins and minerals to support the integumentary system, along with the rest of your body’s internal functions. Here’s more nutritious foods to add to your healthy hair diet.
4. Low Maintenance Means Less Stress & Anxiety
Did you know your mental health has a pretty big effect on your hair health? Stress and anxiety are two of the leading causes of hair loss.
I’m gonna get a little science-y here, so stick with me.
Your hair grows in cycles. There’s the anagen phase (active growth), catagen phase (transitional), telogen phase (resting) and the exogen phase (hair shedding).
If your body is under a constant state of stress, and this can be physical illness or mental stress, you can develop telogen effluvium. High amounts of stress leads to overproduction of the stress hormone cortisol– which is commonly known to prevent hair growth.
So, that’s why I wrote you a road map to low maintenance hair for reference. Having gorgeous hair does not have to break the bank, and it surely doesn’t need to add to the load you have on your plate. Spend less time fussing with your hair and more time on things that fuel your soul.
5. Natural Hair Remedies Nurture Hair Wellness from Within
Have you tried using natural hair remedies before? If not, you should. And here’s why.
It saves you from the mind games and costs of wondering if your hair products are truly clean and non-toxic and doesn’t contribute to the beauty industry’s waste issue. As your hair guide, part of my job is to recommend products that not only help you achieve your hair goals, but honor the connection between us and nature as well.
It is fairly easy to get started and I’m sure you have plenty healthy hair ingredients hanging around in your home. The first hair mask I did at home was fifteen years ago, a full jar of mayonnaise later, and my hair was super shiny and soft.
I have since evolved to using herbs for hair and even essential oils. If this resonates with you more than a jar of mayo (I sure hope it does) , you should start an in-home beauty garden!
Not too keen on the idea of making your own products? That’s okay! You can still reduce contact with toxic chemicals by switching to clean hair products that also value sustainable beauty.
Try Aluram, Innersense Organic Beauty or JVN Hair Care! These are a few of my favorites right now.
6. Protect Your Hair Energy
Did you know that your hair is a physical extension of your personal energy? At least, this is what many indigenous cultures believe. And some even say your hair is linked directly to the crown chakra at the top of your head. This chakra is known as the bridge to the spiritual realm.
So that’s why today we can consider hair stylists as energy workers. But it is also important to understand the energy you are taking on. If you do see a stylist, be sure to choose them wisely.
Protecting your hair energy puts you in the drivers seat of what you allow in your space and how it affects your well-being. Don’t let outside negativity block your journey of hair wellness from within.
7. Developing Hair Wellness From Within Requires Patience
Patience is key, my friend!
Understand that good things take time to come into fruition. What happens to your body internally will eventually present itself externally. And the day you plant the seeds, is not the day you eat the fruit. So, stay consistent.
These are the seven holy virtues I follow to nurture hair wellness from within. And you can, too. It doesn’t have to happen all at once, but incorporating these into your journey little by little will have you look and feel your best!
